POLICE SERVICES


If you need to report a crime that is in progress, dial 911, and a dispatcher will assist you in having an officer dispatched to investigate the incident.

All non-emergency requests for police services can be made by dialing the Ellettsville non-emergency dispatch number at (812) 876-2272, 24-hours a day.

This number can be used for requesting assistance with parking complaints, traffic complaints, reporting of crimes, suspicious activity, and other law enforcement requests.



GUN PERMITS


Applications for gun permits must be completed online by visiting the Indiana State Police website at https://firearms.ariesportal.com/. Please follow the instructions provided with the application process.

Applicants who live in, or own a business in, the Ellettsville town limits will be processed at the Ellettsville Police Department located at 1406 W. Guy McCown Dr. Applicants living outside of the town limits but in Monroe County will need to apply at the Monroe County Sheriff's Office located at 301 N. College Ave., Bloomington, Indiana.

After you have completed the online application, you will go to the police department to complete the required forms and pay the application fee.

Any questions regarding fees, types of permits, or any other firearms application information is available on the Indiana State Police website located at https://www.in.gov/isp/firearms.htm.

GUN PERMIT APPLICATION FEES

  • 5-year permit: FREE
  • Lifetime Gun Permit Application (WITH current gun permit): $40.00
  • Lifetime Gun Permit Application (with NO current gun permit): $50.00
NOTE: If you live outside of the Ellettsville town limits, you will need contact your local police department if you reside in a city or town or your county's sheriff's office if you do not live inside the boundaries of a city or town.



REPORTING A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT


If you are involved in an accident in Ellettsville, please contact the Monroe County Central Emergency Dispatch Center by dialing 911. Please provide the exact location of the accident and alert the dispatcher if there are any injuries. An officer will be dispatched to the scene.

COPIES OF ACCIDENT REPORTS

(ALL FEES DUE MUST BE PAID WITH CASH, CHECK, OR MONEY ORDER UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.)

If you need a copy of an official accident report for an accident that was investigated by the police department, you can purchase your report online at https://buycrash.lexisnexisrisk.com/. The cost for this online service is $12.00 and requires the use of a credit or debit card.

Alternatively, you can purchase a copy of the accident report at the Ellettsville Police Department for $8.00.



TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT


The Ellettsville Police Department is awarded grants for the enforcement of traffic laws in our community.

The department participates in the state-wide Operation Pull-Over campaign grant and the Monroe County Impaired Driving enforcement grant. These programs grant the Town of Ellettsville additional funds for the enforcement of impaired driving laws, speed enforcement, safety belt enforcement, child restraint law enforcement, and other dangerous driving laws.

     

     

TRAFFIC COURT


Ellettsville Police Officers will issue state citations for traffic violations. All traffic court dates are on Thursdays at 1:30 PM. Many people (depending on how clean their driving record is) are eligible for the Traffic Pretrial Diversion Program. The Traffic Pretrial Diversion Program is handled by the prosecutor's office. Contact that program at the prosecutor's office at https://www.monroeprosecutor.us/criminal-justice/traffic-court-infraction-diversion-program/.

Most citations

DO

NOT

require an actual court appearance if the ticket is paid prior to your court date. The cost/fine of tickets is set according to the violation committed. Contact the Monroe County Clerk's Office at the below number for more information. The Ellettsville Police Department cannot accept payments for violations that are cited into the Monroe County Court system.
